Halloween: Beware of Magic Donuts

The Winchells Donut House's Halloween Record has been a holiday favorite of mine since I first
discovered it a few years back, on Otis Fodder's superb GHOULS WITH ATTITUDE
collection. No longer available on Oddio Overplay, the original source, it has been
extensively re-posted. A minimal Web search will turn it up, and is strongly urged.

A friend speculates that the voice of the charming-yet-disturbing magic jack-o-lantern
may have been voiced by Ken Nordine. My researches into the subject have been
inconclusive -- that is, turned up nothing -- although my ears say it could be Nordine.

What I did discover was an edited version of the Winchells record, a sort of producer's
cut, much shorter than the original, yet perhaps truer to the makers' original intent.
And it is deeply disturbing, especially for what I know as a kind of charming (yet
unsettling) recording.

Give it a listen ... you may never look at a magic donut or enchanted pumpkin the
same way again!

Happy Halloween!
